In the summer of 2003, the Lookingglass Theatre Company opened its new home in the Water Tower Water Works Building on Michigan Avenue in Downtown Chicago. Staging Concepts, collaborating with Schuler Shook Theatre Planners, Pepper Construction, and Morris Architects, helped the new Lookingglass Theatre construct its modern, state-of-the-art facility.
Staging Concepts designed and engineered equipment for the theatre’s two seating areas: the main floor and the balcony. The main floor required a seating riser that could have multiple configurations. The balcony is removable and designed to be manipulated into various arrangements. The principal Staging Concepts products used in the theatre are the SC90 Single Sided Platforms with carpet surface, SC90 Adjustable Height Legs, and custom-made perforated metal guardrail. A custom powder coat finish was applied to all aluminum and steel throughout the project to resemble rust and age.
During the summer of 2003, Lookingglass Theatre moved into the historic, and still functioning, Water Tower Water Works building in the heart of the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois. Staging Concepts provided its most flexible equipment, SC90 platforms and legs with custom-made guardrail. Care was taken in choosing finishes to blend with the existing industrial environment including integrating wood throughout and a custom powder coat color applied to all railings and supports to resemble natural rust. Lookingglass Theatre now has two levels of fully reconfigurable seating providing maximum flexibility to accommodate the needs of their seemingly limitless adventures in performance art.
